Album Review: Foals - Live is Yours

Foals’ latest album dives straight in with the title track “Life Is Yours” which has a happily familiar synth and guitar pairing throughout. This song reminds me a lot of the Human League or a song you’d hear on one of the Vice City video game radio stations.

The nostalgic sound very much sets the tone for the rest of the album, which flows into single, Wake Me Up. This has a mid-2000s throwback sound, as does 2001, which has a perfect dated sound for a nostalgic themed song.

The second half of the album starts with Flutter and is more atmospheric than the first half.

Crest of the Wave sounds more modern and has lots of different electronic sounds mashed together. The chorus is one of the best vocal performances on the album.

It coasts slightly towards the end with the final two tracks feeling a bit repetitive of the rest of the album but that being said, the album doesn’t really have a bad song on it and is a pleasure to listen to start to finish – the only thing it may lack is originality, but I think that is intentional on this nostalgia heavy collection.
